What 3 Dudes on the Q Taught me...

You hear the oddest things on the train everyday for the most part. It's New York and we are all use to it.

Last week I was on the Q train in a car that had about 90% of the seats filled and 5 people standing. Sitting near the door I had the "luxury" of getting a ghetto lesson on sex, money and drugs by three loud ghetto-a$$ dudes. Yes I said GHETTTOOOO.

From their amplified conversation laced in bad english and poor annunciation this is the summary:
  • Turning $40 into $300 in one day (however you do it = illegal) deserves a celebration my taking a spliff to the project's roof
  • Having a "baby moms" is guaranteed coochie, a dollar and a place to stay whenever needed. Note she can have another baby daddy after you, but that's ok because you two were never that tight, but she has your kid and that is what matters.
  • An increasing amount of hood girls are becoming lesbians because they are tired of the ghetto behavior of dudes (I wonder why). BUT if a girl has been a lesbo for sometime that means her coochie is good and clean. All the stuff she did before when she was straight and what she might be doing presently as a homosexual doesn't matter. i.e They are waiting for "Angie" to cross back over to being straight because it will be really good coochie since she's been gay for a while.
I wonder if anyone on my train did or adopted any of this train of thought. - KO

A sight to remember

Hi Everyone,

A simple observation had an unexpected impact on me today while I was on my way to Manhattan this morning.

On my first leg of my trip, which is the bus, a black older woman probably in her 60's got on with three little girls. She was surrounded by her loving and vibrant granddaughters, possibly ranging six to eight in age, on their way to church.

When I transferred to the Q train on the platform was an elderly Caucasian Jewish woman with three toddlers. Her grandchildren were two little girls and one little boy who range in age from three to seven. All dressed up and from their conversation they were on their way to temple.

It is amazing how much we fight sometimes because of each other's differences, but we do the same darn thing.

Happy Easter everyone - remain mindful.

Best,

I Plea The 25th

Hey Folks!

I'm back! I was busy turning 25, and had a blast doing so. I know longer have strong negative views about Mars 2112 - only if there is a big dancehall party going on.

I celebrated by partying hard on Saturday; going to see Rent on Sunday followed by a half day spa treatment all for me. There is nothing wrong in taking a time out and celebrating yourself by caring for yourself.

Beauty Brief:
D'mai Urban Spa - They mad eme feel so good on my wonder ful birthday (April 10th). They are in Park Slope Brooklyn so for my brooklynites you don't have to head to the noisy and hassle of Manhattan.

Fashion Passion:
All of last week was spent looking for a sexy outfit to party in, I was only successful in the 11th hour. Thanks Express, those cotton tanks (I'm trying to refrain from the word "wifebeater") are easy to accessorize.

Oh and before I go...I finally got a pair of bright pink fishnets....they made everything just glow. Definitely head to Ricky's for a pair...it makes any outfit come to life!

peace,
K.

Spring Allergies Welcomed....

i love that spring is here and that summer is a few stops away (you know that feeling when you are on the 2 train going from franklin ave. to atlantic----almost there). the only thing i am not feeling about the time when to sun gently kisses your forhead and the wind adds a nice soft breeze, is the nasty dog crap all over the freakin streets.

i don't need to smell rufer's non-absorded breakfast mixed in with the scent of flowers and fresh linen. this atrocity has to stop!! not only do i hate smelling the crap, but seeing owners lazily pick it up leaving eveidence behind. remember the movie with jack black that made poop disappear ---ughh why cant soemthing like that exist, but of course without hurting the environment.

in the end, everyone needs to take their doggy's crap and shove and spray it down and add some smell good powder...ughhh - as if!

Beauty Brief:
Consistency is the only true way to get effectiveness in your daily routine. this is what i came up with:
in the a.m:
1) wash with alpha hydroxy facial cleanser - it looks like your moms old 80's stuff but it's really good for your skin- thanks sophia for putting me on. it has no soap so it wont dry out the skin and helps keep a balance complexion.
2) wipe with a noxzema astringent pad
3) apply bliss all around eyecream
4) apply ddf spf daily matte lotion - protects from the sun and keeps oily skin in balance during the day

in the p.m:
1) wash again with alpha hydroxy
2) apply alpha hydroxy cream this time
3) apply bliss all around eyecream
4) moisturize with a slight richer cream - i use jason's hemp - just a littel bit

most important - have a positive look on yourself...yourface says it all

Fashion Passion:
i still haven't won a bag from that blufly.com give away...i'm gettign so frustrated. i'm also stressed because i need comfy cute shoes, a spring coat to deal wth this fluctuating weather, belts and earrings...i feel so behind...you all know that feeling.

after my birthday weekend i'll do some investigating and report as usual

so happy,

Hip Hop Hypocrisy?

Hi Lovelies,

I am feeling the new Ghostface Song w/ Ne-Yo "Back Like That." The theme and actual name of the song reminds me of the line Jay-Z said in "Song Cry."

As I am head bopping to these tunes it hits me of the sexism and hypocrisy in the lyrics. These guys are complaining about their girlfriend's revenge in response to their cheating ways. Is it just me whose head is going "Wha Wha What?" When does someone who does wrong critique another person's wrong doing.

Maybe this is just damn sexism. Dude messes with some other chick(s) but because they mean nothing to him, it's not fair for his lady to have intimate dealings with someone he detests. Hmmm I don't know if there is any choice one has when getting their feelings hurt.

For Ghost, Jay and the others that think of it that way - that same degree of anguish you feel toward the person she cheated with in an act of revenge, just maybe it the same way she felt when you poked the nameless woman on tour. Just a thought.

Beauty Break:
If you haven't tried threading, I won't lie it hurts, but I recommend it. I figure there is no chance of someone ripping off your skin, this happened to a few people I know, and it has a nice personal touch to it. If you are the brave soul and want to try, definitely check out shohba www.shobhathreading.com/ on Broadway and Houston. Google the name and you will find their site. Ask for Sashi (she is not $25 because she got promoted).

Are you not a believer in paying $25, then take the Q train to Ave. H and the first nail salon you see by the laundromat - have the woman with the short hair and glasses do your eyebrows. It is a wax job but she is definitely good and it's just $5!!!

Fashion Passion:
I haven't gone shopping in a while....Like serious shopping. I am still on the quest for those perfect flats that aren't too round but not too pointy that stick people by accident. Flats can be uncomfortable, but I know there is one perfect pair out there for me.

Bag lovers - I will dedicate a blog to this designer later but Isabella Fiore bags are the BEST (all caps for izzy) in a matter of weeks I will have that supple leather graffiti summer bag she has out on my shoulder...price is for you to find out. Make sure you also check out Cole Hans G-series bags - so cute. Anyone out there works at bloomies, saks or bergdorf goodman?!?!?! HELP PLEASE

MWAH folks

Don't We Luv Sundays

Is it me or does it seem that Sundays have the best weather during the week. For those that go to church, it's like God makes no excuse for you not to go. It can be a blizzard all week, but when Sunday arrives the beaming sun makes it feel like 70 degrees.

The next best thing about Sundays is breakfast...nothing like tea, plantains, french toast and/or eggs (if you choose the eggs it has to be an omelet with tomatoes and cheese...delicious). Breakfast tastes so good - must be the tastebuds best day.

Now the tea has to be a certain way:
1 bag of english breakfast
2.5 lumps of brown sugar

Add boiling water to the cup of sugar and tea. Let it sit for 3 minutes. Follow this with about 3 drops of milk(preferably evaporated milk) until the tea is a nice bronze color.

---sit back and just enjoy. Have a nice pastry for the ultimate experience.

Fashion Passion:
Make sure you check out the bag-a-day giveaway on bluefly.com. I didn't win a bag yet but I scored a few 10% off coupons and free shipping. What I don't get is that 10% off $100 is only $10 bucks - excuse my incorrect english, but that ain't nothing.

Also make a trip to shoegasm on 23rd between 6th and broadway (same block as Home Depot). I got $200 bcbg cowgirl boots for $39.99 plus tax final sale. Nice!!!

---have a sunkiss sunday:)
